It all started with the entire idea of tissue paper and unwrinkled clothes (if my clothes are wrinkled when I get there, I will be disappointed). So that took a minute more. Then, I guess I just wasn't good with how much time I thought it would take to get ready. But, I got to the airport on time, no big deal. My best friend Alyssa came with my parents to drop me off! Love this girl!
I went through security just fine, and then found out my first flight to DC was officially delayed. No big deal, except that it was about 45 minutes late and I had only an hour layover in DC. Do the math, I was going to have about 15 minutes to get to my next gate. This wouldn't have been a problem except that my gate was in a totally different terminal. So, I hustled. I know I helped burn some of that burrito off, because I had to go through 22 gates to get to where I had to be in 10 minutes. If you've ever been to an airport where there's no ground transportation, as I said before, hustling is the only option.
I got to the gate just as my group was boarding. I honestly thought that I would have more time, because group 3 is usually the last group to board. Whoops, guess that's only within the states. I got on the plane, I swear it was 500 degrees. I changed into my comfy outfit and tried to cool down. I sat there for like 45 minutes because they were having baggage issues (probably has something to do with those delayed flights, eh?)
Anyways, now I'm sitting on this plane. I saw NYC from the plane. The picture is crap, but I could literally see the like 3-4 skyscrapers shining from the suns' reflection. It was wicked cool. There are about 3 more hours of flying time and we are in the middle of the ocean.
We are 40000 feet in the air. Comforting. Honestly not too worried about the flight/flying. I have been to Australia where the flight was around 16 hours. So 7 is pretty easy to get by. There's also a lot of movies (Finding Nemo was the first attempt) and TV shows (caught up a little on Orange is the New Black, and a couple episodes of the Big Bang Theory). I JUST CAN'T SLEEP. I guess I'm excited (!). The problem is that when we get to Brussels, it will be 7am- meaning there will be an ENTIRE DAY to do things! The last thing I want is to be tired, but I think it will come with the package of traveling. I even took a little melatonin pill, which has made my eyes heavy but that's about it.
Since I'm on a roll here, and I don't know if anyone cares, but the people you meet on planes is just so much fun! Definitely hasn't been the most interesting, but whatever works, yeah? On my flight to DC, there was a woman concerned with time (to the extent of asking my seat buddy what time it was like 4 times in one hour), a couple headed to Kiev for an adoption process (super cute- it will take them like 6 weeks. And you know there's kind of a war happening against Russia with them right now. Scary stuff). Then there was my seat buddy. He was way too tall for this tiny express airplane. He was pretty nice, and failed to tell me beforehand that his girlfriend was toward the front of the plane. I totally would've switched with her, but he didn't say anything until we were in the air. They were going abroad too for a graduation gift to themselves. They were headed to London, which is on my list but wasn't as high as this trip! Anyway, it's nice flying by tolerant people. Then, on this flight, I got really lucky to have the middle seat open on an international flight (never happens). So I get to sort of spread out (even though I can't sleep, which stinks). The woman on the aisle is from St. Louis on a business/pleasure trip. There's like 5 of them throughout the plane. They were delayed also because of tornados in St. Louis.
The "dinner" we had on the flight kinda stunk, but I was starving. In fact, I already feel hungry again. Fail. This has only taken up like 20 minutes. I guess I'll try to sleep some more...
...and they turned the lights back up with an hour and a half of flying left. I think I slept maybe 2 hours total this while flight? Hopefully more. But here's the sunrise!
The next post I make will be after I've been in EUROPE for a while! Isn't that cool? K Bye.
